How-To
Booklet: Installing Track Lighting |
|
Track lights are
adjustable fixtures that are plugged into prewired channel-like
devices, call tracks, which install on a ceiling (Figure
1).
 |
| Selecting a
Kit |
|
If installing
more than one track in a room and you want to interconnect them,
find out if the manufacturer of the kit offers firrings for the
desired straight, L-, T-, or X-shaped configuration (Figure
2).

| Layout |
|
Typical end of
run grounded switch (Figure 3).

If working
with gypsum wallboard, attach the junction boc to an adjustable
hanger bar. Then screw the bar into the joists from the attic side
so the junction box is in the ceiling hold (Figure 4). If working with plaster, screw the junction box to an
offset hanger bar and screw the bar to the bottom of the joists from
the room side (Figure 5).

| Wiring |
|
Turning the
connector as tightly as possible will ensure a secure and proper
connection. Check that the skirt of the wire covers all the wire
from which you stripped insulation. Tug each wire to make sure the
wire connector is properly connected (Figure 6).

Step 2)
Unscrew the back cover from the end cap (if there is one), and screw
the plate from the kit onto the cap. This plate is designated to
cover the hole junction box in the ceiling (Figure 7).

Step 4)
Connect the Romex (or BX) cable neutral (white) wire to the
neutral (silver) terminal screw in the cap or to the white wire
extending from the cap. Then connect the cable green or bare
(ground) wire to the center (ground) screw, or to the green or bare
wire in the end cap. See Diagrams. (Figures 8-10).

Step 5)
Use toggle bolts or anchor screws to attach the track ceiling
(Figure 11).
